April 1, 2016 - Nursing lecturer Jason Kiernan has been selected to be the recipient of the 2016 Council of Ontario Programs in Nursing (COUPN) Excellence in Teaching Award. This award recognizes excellence in teaching by a faculty member in a COUPN university program. The award criteria are:

•    Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
•    Demonstrated ability to stimulate students to think creatively and critically.
•    Demonstrated caring for student learning and student well-being.
•    Demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching.
•    Demonstrated ability to foster the development of students as nursing professionals.
•    Demonstrated ability to motivate student to exceed their own expectations.

Prof. Kiernan was nominated for this award by BScN student Elizabeth Dillon. Supporting letters were submitted by BScN students Destiny Cadarette and Patrick Frias

March 11, 2016 - The Faculty of Nursing congratulates Fran Meloche, who successfully defended her MScN thesis titled "An Ethnographic Study of Pre-Graduate, Precepted Nursing Student Clinical Placements in Long-Term Care Homes." Her committee members included: Dr. Lorna de Witt (supervisor), Dr.Linda Patrick (internal reader), and Dr. Victoria Paraschak (external reader).

Fran is also the Faculty of Nursing's Student Success Coordinator, and a Sessional Instructor.

February 25, 2016 -  The BScN program (jointly with Lambton and St. Clair Colleges) and UWindsor’s educational unit received a maximum 7-year term accreditation by Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) Accreditation. Collaborative partners Lambton and St. Clair Colleges also each received 7-year terms for their respective educational units. See the Daily News article for details.

February 5, 2016 - Professor Maher El-Masri has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Nursing Research (CJNR), which was recently acquired by Sage Publications Inc. from McGill University. This appointment is a testament of Maher’s contributions to the journal during his appointment as an editor over the past three years.

January 11, 2016 - Congratulations to Ancially Academic Staff (Experiential Learning Specialist) Judy Bornais, who received the 2015 SIM Citizenship Award. The SIM Citizenship Award recognizes Ontario simulationists who have made important contributions in the healthcare simulation field. It honours those who have made an outstanding impact on education, teaching, creative professional activities, and other endeavours. The award praises collaborative and dedicated simulationists who exceed the expectations of their role in promoting simulation in their communities. Thank you to Debbie Rickeard who nominated Judy for this award, and Sue Dennison who provided a supporting letter.

January 11, 2016: Congratulations to Associate Professor and Interim Graduate Coordinator Dr. Michelle Freeman, who was selected to receive the Impact Award for her leadership with patient safety initiatives. This award is part of the UWindsor Employee Recognition Awards Program, and its purpose is to recognize individuals or teams who have developed, revised and/or implemented a system, tool, process, initiative and/or program within their departments or across the University that had a positive impact. Thank you to Sue Dennison who nominated Michelle for this award, and to the other faculty members, students (i.e. patient safety champions) and external partners (WRH) who supported the nomination.

September 8, 2015 - Congratulations to Professors Debbie Kane and Kathy Pfaff, who are recipients of Nursing internal grants for 2015/16. Dr. Pfaff received $2,500 for her research study titled "Promoting interdisciplinary palliative care in long-term care: The impact of leadership". Dr. Kane received $3,000 for her research study titled "Promoting healthy lifestyle choices through workplace wellness programs".
