WINDSOR, Ont. — The University of Windsor has appointed Dr. Barbara Crow as provost and vice-president, academic, effective July 1, 2026.
Dr. Crow brings to the role a distinguished record of senior academic leadership, a research career focused on gender, technology and communication and a sustained commitment to graduate education and student success.
As the University’s chief academic officer, Dr. Crow will provide leadership across teaching and learning, research, student experience, strategic enrolment management, international development, library sciences and the academic support systems that serve students, faculty and staff.
“Dr. Crow brings a remarkable combination of academic leadership, research excellence and deep commitment to students and community,” said Dr. J.J. McMurtry, president of the University of Windsor.
“Her experience, insight and vision make her exceptionally well suited to help guide our academic priorities and advance the work we are doing in teaching, research and student experience. We are incredibly fortunate to welcome her to UWindsor.”
Dr. Crow joins UWindsor from Queen’s University, where she served as dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, one of Canada’s largest academic faculties.
Prior to Queen’s, she held several senior roles at York University, including dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and associate vice-president graduate, associate dean research and director of the Graduate Program in Communication and Culture.
Throughout her career, Dr. Crow championed initiatives to strengthen graduate education, expand student supports and professional development and grow access to national research funding.
She was a successful fundraiser, raising millions of dollars for scholarships, research professorships and Indigenous initiatives, including an outdoor land-based learning space. She also served as chair of the Graduate Deans at the Council of Ontario Universities.
