Graduate Programs

Faculty within Biomedical Sciences offer a wide range of research opportunities in Molecular and Cellular Biology. The Department of Biomedical Sciences offers MSc Biological Sciences and PhD Biological Sciences research degrees in collaboration with the Department of Integrative Biology.  We also offer a 1-year, course-based, professional MSc in Translational Health Science program. Please visit the Faculty of Graduate Studies for more information about admission requirements, tuition fees and applications.

MSc Biological Sciences

Students perform a research project with a faculty supervisor over a two-year period.  Students also take graduate level courses, perform graduate assistantship (GA) duties in undergraduate courses and participate in a seminar series.

It is recommended that students directly contact any prospective supervisor before applying to this program. Contact information and research areas of the faculty can be found on our Research page.  Students intending to apply should also complete the Statement of Research Interests .

MSc in Translational Health Sciences

Translational Health Science is a new and rapidly growing research field that seeks to “translate” or bridge the gap between advances in laboratory medical research and health care in clinical practice. The MSTHS professional program is designed to provide students with education and skills to enter a wide variety of career paths in translational health sciences.

The MSTHS program is a 1-year, course-based, Master of Science Program which includes traditional lecture-based courses; a Professional Development seminar; and a 12-month Experiential Learning Placement course in which students will gain hands-on experience working with local researchers in a clinical or laboratory research environment. To learn more about the MSTHS program, and how to apply, visit the MSTHS Home Page .

PhD Biological Sciences

Students perform an independent research project with a faculty supervisor over a four year period.  Students also take graduate level courses, perform graduate assistantship (GA) duties in undergraduate courses and participate in a seminar series.

It is recommended that students directly contact any prospective supervisor before applying. Contact information and research areas of the faculty can be found on our Research page. Students intending to apply should also complete the Statement of Research Interests form.
