Research Opportunities for Undergraduates

Here are some options for getting involved in research projects:

  • 59-410 Honours Project (fourth year students)
  • NSERC USRA (undergraduate summer research assistantships)
  • Outstanding Scholars
  • Summer Research (students in 2nd, 3rd, 4th years, see below)
  • Work study (see below)

Students with GPAs of 80% and higher in year 2, 3 and 4:
We invite undergraduate students in their second, third and fourth years of Honours Chemistry and Biochemistry programs to attend:

  • Annual Undergraduate Research Information Session for prospective 4th-year Honours project and summer students, where you can meet the faculty members, learn about their research, and enjoy some free food and drinks!

Students currently in third year:
Next year will be your opportunity to do an Honours Project (59-410), and this is a chance to see what is available.

Students with GPAs of 80% and higher in year 2, 3 and 4:
You are encouraged to apply for NSERC Undergraduate Summer Research Awards (USRA) - a faculty member must support your application and write a proposal with you for your application. Please note that even if you do not receive an NSERC USRA, many faculty members have research funding that can support you for a summer position.  Please inquire to individual faculty as to whether summer positions are available.

Work study:
Some part time work positions may be available during the Fall and Winter terms. Please consult our employment page or check individual faculty webpages.

If you require further information, please contact the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry office.
