Did you know? Undergraduate Summer Research Scholarship
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry now offers a Summer Research Scholarship for undergraduate students. You are eligible to apply if your GPA (major) is 80% or higher and you do not hold a USRA for the same period of time. A list of available projects and the application form can be found here.
Scholarships & Awards: Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry
The following awards are offered on an annual basis to students enrolled in all programs in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry:
Chemistry and Biochemistry Memorial Prizes (Up to two outstanding students entering Year 2, $200)
Peter Wyzinski Memorial Award (3rd year: Chemistry, $500)
Canadian Society for Chemistry Prizes (4th year: Chemistry, Biochemistry)
Society for Chemical Industry Award (4th year: Chemistry, Biochemistry)
Hutnik Research Award (Best research project, Biochemistry, $500)
Dennis Tuck Memorial Award (Best research project, Chemistry, $500)
Michael Jacko Scholarship in Organic Chemistry (Outstanding research work by graduate or senior undergraduate student, $500)
Decisions on these scholarships are made by the Undergraduate Awards committee, and typically announced in late April of each year.
Undergraduates in their second, third and fourth years with a GPA over 70% are eligible to apply for a NSERC Undergraduate Summer Research Award; which enable students to work full time in a research laboratory in the department from May until August for a stipend of $6000. These scholarships are rather competitive and most students who received it in the past years had GPAs above 90%.
Undergraduates with a GPA over 80% are eligible to apply for an Undergraduate Summer Research Scholarship that awards $4000 for 15 weeks of full time research work between May 1 and August 31.
