Women’s basketball gold medal game wins local broadcast

Cogeco cable 11 will air the Canadian Interuniversity Sport women’s basketball gold medal game between the Windsor Lancers and UBC Thunderbirds at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24.

The CIS named Lancer guard Miah-Marie Langlois its female athlete of the week after she led her team to the national championship.

UWindsor students ACE business competition

The Windsor chapter of Students in Free Enterprise met every challenge at the Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE) regional exposition, March 12 in Toronto. Teams in three categories were named regional champions and will on to the national competition in Calgary, May 7 to 9.

“I am extremely proud of my team,” said Emilie Cushman, president of SIFE Windsor. “They all worked very hard and these are all volunteer projects.”

Workshop to offer insight into student business plan competition

A workshop hosted by the Centre for Enterprise and Law on Thursday, March 15, offers students help with writing a business plan in preparation for a $25,000 Ontario-wide competition.

The competition will bring investment to new businesses that can demonstrate the potential for economic impact. It is open to students or recent grads from the University of Windsor and St. Clair College.

Thursday’s workshop starts at 4 p.m. in Alumni Hall’s McPherson Lounge. Register for the business plan workshop here.

Five Windsor Lancers still in the hunt for soccer club dream job

More than 200 candidates from across Canada entered the Toronto FC Dream Job Contest and of the 15 who advanced to the next round, five are from the University of Windsor.

“To have one-third of the candidates from the University of Windsor is truly a remarkably feat,” says Ryan McConnell, one of six graduate students in business professor Vincent Georgie’s advertising management course who have been promoting the contest.

UWindsor grad assumes presidency of regional Chamber of Commerce

UWindsor business grad Matt Marchand (BComm 1990) brings a wealth of experience to his new appointment as president of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce, board chair Jennifer Jones said in a news release Tuesday.

Marchand, a Windsor native, joined the chamber’s Board of Directors in June 2010 and served as the chair of its government relations committee. He comes to his new office from the Continental Rail Gateway, where he was director of government affairs. Prior to that, he held the position of policy assistant in the Windsor mayor’s office for 12 years.

Business alum shares secrets of leadership

Richard Peddie took up his new appointment as leader-in-residence at the Odette School of Business with a morning address to a packed auditorium Wednesday.

Peddie – a UWindsor grad (BComm 1970, honorary LLD 2001) and recently-retired president of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment – spoke to his vision of producing business leaders of the future. He peppered his talk with stories from his career spanning three decades of senior executive roles in some of Canada’s most prominent organizations.
