Students eligible for savings on symposium admission

The Odette School of Business is able to extend a $10 discount to any student—university of high school—who registers for the Odette Leadership Symposium by 4 p.m. Friday, February 1.

The symposium, which runs February 15 and 16, will help students and recent graduates from across North America to unleash their inner leaders. A Richard Peddie Leadership Initiative, its featured speakers include former Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke, management psychologist Richard Davis, industrialist Diane Reko and men’s fashion icon Harry Rosen.

They are among the speakers at the Odette Leadership Symposium, February 15 and 16. The symposium, a Richard Peddie Leadership Initiative, will help students and recent graduates from across North America to unleash their inner leaders.

Business student’s company promotes heavyweight charity event

Adrian Taropa has signed on for a real fight.

The fourth-year business student has taken a leading role in promoting Get in the Ring, a fundraiser for the Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital Foundation and the Care for Kidneys Foundation, centred on a boxing match for the Canadian heavyweight championship.

Taropa’s web design company, TD Labs, oversaw the online marketing, booking system and web development for the event, December 14 at the Caboto Club.

Auto industry researchers share economic expertise with Toyota suppliers

An invitation to address a forum for suppliers to the world’s leading automotive assembler points to recognition of the expertise developed at the Odette School of Business in the 12 years since professor Tony Faria created its Office of Automotive and Vehicle Research, says a colleague.

Pete Mateja is co-director of the office with Dr. Faria. The two made a presentation entitled “The Canadian Auto Industry - Economic Outlook” at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada supplier forum, November 30 in Cambridge.

Crowd cheers University’s takeover of downtown site

Hundreds of students, alumni, staff, faculty and well-wishers cheered as UWindsor president Alan Wildeman accepted the keys to the former Windsor Star buildings from publisher Marty Beneteau on Friday, symbolizing the transfer of the property to the University.

First-year business student Qiaotian Yan said it was fun to participate in the event, which jammed the corner of Pitt and Ferry streets for a photograph and video to document the historic occasion.

Relationships at centre of exchange experience

The University of Windsor takes great pride in its student exchange program, and this couldn’t have been more evident during a farewell party held in Katzman Lounge on November 27.

The gathering included food, drinks, conversation among new friends, and some thoughtful words from coordinator Michelle Fitzgerald, and Clayton Smith, vice-provost, students and international.

“The exchange program doesn’t only changes the lives of the students; it changes the world,” Dr. Smith said.

Student group to offer information session on international internship

With the realities of today’s tight job markets, young people are looking for new ways to try the international job market on for size. However, going on an international internship can turn from exciting to nerve-racking without the right guidance.

AIESEC Windsor will hold an information session on Wednesday, November 21, at 2 p.m. in room 263, Chrysler Hall South, to discuss the organization and its role in the application process for international experience.
