The University of Windsor’s Environmental Genomics Facility (EGF) is a multi-user, central facility located at GLIER. There are many instruments available to users, both from the University of Windsor, as well as external users.
Facility Policies & Fees
To ensure proper use of the laboratories, instrumentation, and other resources of the Environmental Genomics Facility, the steering committee has implemented a set of policies to which users must agree to before working in the EGF. Failure to follow these policies may result in user privileges being revoked.
All users must be trained on the machines prior to use. Training is only to be done by the EGF Technician or a mentor assigned by the technician.
Billing will be done quarterly for internal users, and it will align with the end of each academic semester. External users, both academic and non-academic, will be billed per use and/or at the end of a project.
Laboratory Safety & Laboratory Practices
Users are expected to follow good lab practices (GLP) including courteous behaviour to other users and the EGF staff.
The EGF follows laboratory safety guidelines as determined by the University of Windsor’s health and safety board.
The EGF has a strict policy regarding the following:
- No food or drink allowed in rooms 224, 226, 128 & 150B.
- Lab coats and closed toe shoes MUST be worn when working in rooms 224, 226, 128 & 150B.
- Individuals must complete and be current on their annual renewal for WHMIS training before working in the EGF.
- Follow proper guidelines for the disposal of hazardous materials. If you are unsure of these guidelines, please ask the EGF Technician.
