Windsor Law welcomed hundreds of alumni to the newly renovated Ron W. Ianni building on Oct 28, in a celebration that unveiled the spectacular transformation of Windsor Law. This event included opening ceremonies with many honorable guests, including the Treasurer of the Law society of Ontario Jacquline Horvat, and Justice Chris Uwagboe, who served as our MCs for the day. Windsor Law was also honoured to welcome and hear remarks from the Right Honourable Richard Wagner, Chief Justice of Canada and Minister of Crown–Indigenous Relations Canada Gary Anandasangaree. Our Member of Parliament for Windsor-Tecumseh, Irek Kusmierczyk, was also in attendance during the weekend festivities and shared his Windsor Law Pride at the House of Commons on November 1st. Dr. Beverly Jacobs, Senior Advisor to the President’s Office and Windsor Law professor, unveiled Sky Woman, an indigenous art piece commissioned by Six Nations artist Arnold Jacobs in the Don Rodzik Moot Court, as well as a plaque honoring the attendance of Chief Justice of Canada.
Alumni filled the building, taking in the remarkable transformation of a place they called home during some of the most formative years of their legal careers. For alumni who graduated this past summer, who only experienced remote learning during their time at Windsor Law, the reopening celebrations marked the first time they had ever walked into the Ron W. Ianni law building.
Enthusiastic energy wavered throughout the building. Faculty and students showcased their innovative research, and dynamic programming, alumni attended guided tours of the building with lead architect, Duncan Higgins, and most importantly, alumni were given an exciting opportunity to reconnect with Windsor Law and each other. Classmates from all graduation years gathered in decade and club reunions to reminisce of the times they spent at Windsor Law and make fond memories in the newly renovated space.
This reopening marked a monumental moment for Windsor Law, as the past met the future. Alumni were introduced to the next generation of Windsor Law. To all our alumni, donors, and supporters, thank you, we could not have done it without you!
