The hidden world of the Great Lakes will be revealed at the University of Windsor, where scientific instruments are being transformed into an immersive art installation.

Creative Currents: Art and Science on the Great Lakes is a collaboration between RAEON, the Regional Aquatic Environmental Observatory Network, and INCUBATOR Art Lab, bringing the lakes’ offshore monitoring systems onto shore, giving visitors a glimpse into the currents, cycles and microscopic life that usually go unseen.

Distributed across the basin, RAEON’s network of sensors continuously tracks the lakes’ vital signs, capturing real-time measurements that reveal the delicate balance of freshwater ecosystems. The installation reimagines scientific equipment as public art, offering visitors a chance to experience the rhythms, cycles and unseen systems that sustain the lakes.

The event invites the public to explore how science and art intersect to observe, interpret and care for the Great Lakes. It also highlights the collaborative work between scientists, artists and communities, showing how technology can both inform and inspire.

The installation will be open to the public at the University of Windsor’s School of Creative Arts — Armouries Building — on Friday, Feb. 13 from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

Visitors can drop in at any time to enjoy Creative Currents, including live music, food, art, science, and great conversations!.
