Belonging has always been at the heart of everything University of Windsor alumna Joan Simpson (BSW ‘06, MSW ‘14) does. 

From supporting newcomers and those facing socioeconomic barriers to co-founding the Beauty is Me non-profit, Simpson’s work is all about empowerment and reminding people that they belong. 

It’s a drive that has been with Simpson since her youth.

Jeanine Watt (BSc ’78, LLB ’88) joined a gym in 2018 to stay active as a semi-retired lawyer. 

“I knew that if I retired, the only thing that would get any exercise was my thumb on the remote control,” she jokes. 

This March, she will take the main stage at the Arnold Sports Festival as a pro competitor in the Arnold Armlifting Championships.

As Canada faces ongoing health-care worker shortages, internationally educated nurses (IENs) are increasingly relied upon to fill critical roles.

Research by Dr. Edward Cruz, a professor in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Windsor, suggests many of these nurses continue to encounter systemic barriers that limit their ability to fully integrate into the workforce — even as they are actively recruited to meet demand.

The postseason has arrived, and the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs are officially underway for the Windsor Lancers.

With multiple teams competing for provincial championships starting this week, the Lancers are calling on fans to rally behind the blue and gold to “Protect Our House.”

The Toldo Lancer Centre and Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex will serve as key battlegrounds for Windsor’s home contests.

A team of University of Windsor students won first place at the inaugural Hult Prize on-campus finals with a sustainability-focused business plan to turn fish waste into dog biscuits. 

The competition on Feb. 5 saw six teams of entrepreneurially minded students pitch their plans to a panel of judges, with the goal of addressing real-world challenges through innovative business solutions.

Third-year biomedical sciences student Simona Brezeanu’s undergraduate health-care research turned heads at a national student research conference this winter. 

In January, Queen’s University in Kingston hosted the 21st Canadian Undergraduate Conference on Healthcare (CUCOH). The student-run conference brought together more than 150 students from more than 10 Canadian institutions to present their research.

From locating the Crown Attorney’s office to understanding what documents are required for a case, self-represented litigants often find themselves at a disadvantage.

The Community Legal Aid – University of Windsor’s Navigator Project is tackling this challenge head-on.
