When the Windsor-Essex community gathers at the WE-SPARK Health Institute’s annual Cheers to Hope event one thing is certain – it is time to celebrate.  

This year’s inspirational evening takes place on Nov. 6 from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Ambassador Golf Club.

Over 20,000 runners will hit the streets Oct. 19 for the Detroit Free Press Marathon and Half-Marathon.  

Among them will be around 2,600 Canadians, including University of Windsor faculty and staff. 

“I really enjoy the racecourse,” says Chris Greig, associate professor in the Faculty of Education.  

“Detroit is a well-organized race, and the atmosphere is wonderful on race day.”

On Wednesday, Sept. 10, the Odette School of Business hosted its annual CPA Night, bringing together accounting students and top regional firms for a premier recruitment and networking event aimed at launching careers in the accounting profession.

The event welcomed students from the undergraduate and graduate accounting programs who are seeking co-op placements, internships and full-time positions during the fall accounting recruitment season.

Acclaimed poet Marie Howe (BA 1974) was stunned to learn she had been awarded the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for her collection New and Selected Poems.

“It was absolutely stunning and surprising that this happened,” she recalled. “I heard about the news from a friend who called me and said, ‘You won the Pulitzer.’ I didn’t believe it. For about three or four minutes, we went back and forth, and I told him, ‘Stop, that’s not even funny, don’t even say that.’”

For Jessica Monteith (BA 2015) and Rizki Sirois (BComm 2015), the University of Windsor is more than just where they earned their degrees.  

Campus is the place where their lives became deeply intertwined. 

So much so, that the couple returned to campus on July 31 to exchange vows in front of Dillon Hall, honouring the place where their relationship first blossomed. 

The choice to mark such an important milestone at UWindsor was intentional and symbolic.

An exciting week of events is planned to celebrate Alumni Week. This year’s events celebrate the enduring connection of alumni: Then. Now. Always a Lancer.

On Wednesday, Sept. 24, the annual campus community barbecue welcomes students, staff and faculty to River Commons between noon and 1:30 p.m., while supplies last.

Complimentary burgers and chips with halal and vegan options will be served. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles to refill at the mobile hydration station.
