A panel discussion celebrating Windsor-Essex's Francophone community will explore its roots, culture and contributions to the region on Thursday, March 19.

Marking the Month of La Francophonie in March, the Faculty of Arts, History and Social Sciences’ (FAHSS) Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Indigeneity and Decolonization (EDIID) committee is hosting the event.

“Panellists will discuss the university’s Francophone roots, programs and initiatives for Francophone and Francophile students, and the challenges and opportunities shaping their experiences on campus,” said Olive Huang, student co-chair of the FAHSS EDIID committee.

Open to all, the panel features Dr. Jeremy Worth, professor of French studies; Yasmine Joheir, executive director of the Centre Communautaire francophone Windsor-Essex-Kent; and Victorieuse Sambao, co-president of the Chapitre Jeunesse du Club Richelieu. It will be moderated by Dr. Emanuelle Richez, professor of political science.

“The discussion will also explore connections between the University and the local Francophone community, how younger generations express their Francophone identity and ways to strengthen and advance the Francophonie in the region,” Huang added.

The discussion will be held on Thursday, March 19, at 1 p.m. online and in the University of Windsor’s Dr. Murray O’Neil Medical Education Building, room 3102A/B.
