Sara Williams knew she wanted to be a nurse by the time she was in Grade 6.
The pull toward health care came early, shaped by childhood visits to the hospital where her mother worked as a lab technician in Port Huron, Mich.
Annual “bring your child to work” days offered Williams an up-close look at patient care — and sparked an early fascination with the role of the nurse.
She carried that certainty into her first year of nursing school — until reality hit.

Health research in Windsor-Essex just got a half a million-dollar boost.
WE-SPARK Health Institute and its funding partners awarded 32 new research grants totalling $499,000 to help address pressing health challenges, at an awards ceremony at the Ambassador Golf Club on Aug. 27

Cheryl Forchuk, a proud alum of the University of Windsor, has been appointed to the Order of Canada in recognition of her transformative work advocating for people experiencing homelessness and those facing mental health challenges.
The award is one of Canada’s highest civilian honours, naming Dr. Forchuk an Officer Appointee on June 30.
“It’s a wonderful recognition,” said Forchuk.
