Admissions & Applications

Students accepted into our regular M.A. program (M-2 admission level) require an honours degree in philosophy or its equivalent. Students with less than an honours degree are normally required to complete a "make-up" semester  or year (M-1 admission level) before entering the regular M.A. program. Students having questions about admission requirements are encouraged to contact the Graduate Coordinator.

Applications

A complete application must include the following:

Minimum GPA: 73% in the last two full years of study.

  1. Transcripts.
  2. Two letters of reference.
  3. One writing sample (preferably a term paper).
  4. TOEFL: IBT: 100;  IELTS: 7.0; Pearson: 68; Duolingo: 120.
  5. Study plan (500 words or less). Applicants must describe their program intentions, including the following elements: relevant past experience, current philosophical interests, future study/ career plans.

Minimum GPA: 73% overall in the last two full years, with 75% in the last two years of Philosophy courses

  1. Transcripts,
  2. Two letters of reference.
  3. One writing sample (preferably a term paper).
  4. TOEFL: IBT: 100;  IELTS: 7.0; Pearson: 68; Duolingo: 120.
  5. Statement of research interest (500 words or less).  Applicants must describe their research project, including the following elements: proposed major paper topic or area of philosophical research, relevant past experience, future research plans.

You may apply for admission (Graduate Admission Requirements) at any time and those accepted may enter the program in either September or January. However, those who apply by mid-March for entry the following September are usually better positioned for receiving graduate assistantships. Domestic students who wish to be considered for the University of Windsor entrance scholarship should submit a complete application no later than May 1st for Fall admission or September 1st for Winter admission.

Domestic students who wish to apply for an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) at the University of Windsor should submit a complete application to the Graduate Coordinator by the end of the first week of January.

International Students

The Windsor Philosophy MA program regularly includes students from the U.S.A. and all over the world. Plenty of information and assistance can be found at the International Student Centre.

International students who wish to be considered for a University of Windsor entrance scholarship should submit a complete application on or before December 1st for entry the following September. International students who wish to apply for an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) at the University of Windsor must submit a complete application to the department no later than January 1st for entry the following September.
