Undergraduate Program Details

Honours Physics

is our core physics stream. It provides an excellent education in physics, competitive with any undergraduate program in North America in preparing students for graduate studies in physics or related areas, or for general employment. Of all our programs, it allows the most options and hence flexibility for interdisciplinary studies.

NEW CALENDAR!

Be advised that students entering in the Fall of 2021 or later will be operating under a new calendar that requires different courses than the calendars below.  Please make sure you are following the proper suggested course sequence.

The American Institute of Physics (AIP). AIP is one of the main professional bodies for physicists and is dedicated to the advancement of physics.
At their site, they describe:

  • Who are Physicists?
  • Who’s Hiring Physicists and Physics Bachelor’s?
  • Career guidance for students
  • Enrollments and degrees at all levels of education in physics
  • Demographic profiles of physics faculty
  • Common career paths of physicists and astronomers
  • Workforce dynamics including the number of positions available

Medical Physics

is tailored to students wanting to specialize in medical imaging and/or radiology and enter the rapidly growing field of physics in medicine. By adding specialized medical physics courses as well as courses in biology and biochemistry, this program prepares students to enter certified graduate programs in medical physics or enter the medical technology workforce.

Be advised that students entering in the Fall of 2021 or later will be operating under a new calendar that requires different courses than the calendars below.  Please make sure you are following the proper suggested course sequence.

The Canadian Organization of Medical Physicists (COMP/OCPM).  COMP is the main professional body for medical physicists practicing in Canada.  The membership is composed of graduate students in medical physics programs, post-doctoral fellows, as well as professional physicists, scientists, and academics located at universities, hospitals, cancer centres, and government research facilities.
At their site, they describe:

  • Who are Medical Physicists?
  • What do Medical Physicists do?
  • Professional status of Canadian medical physicists
  • Employment of Medical Physicists in Canada
  • Medical Physics Training Programs

American Association of Physicists in Medicine page "For Students interested in a Career in Medical Physics". At this page, they will answer your questions about becoming a medical physicist.

A video of Dr. Jay Burmeister, PhD, DABR, FAAPM who is the Chief of Physics, Karmanos Cancer Center and a Professor in the Department of Oncology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine talking about Medical Physics with students at UWindsor is provided here.

A video of Medical Physicists and UWindsor graduates Tomi Nano and Dante Capaldi talking to current UWindsor students about their experiences in medical physics at the University of Windsor and afterwards is provided here.
