Funding for graduate students comes from several sources listed in the dropdown menu below. Most students are supported by a combination of Research Assistantship Scholarships, Graduate (Teaching) Assistantships, and Entrance Scholarships. Cost of Study: To get an idea of the cost of tuition and associated fees, please refer to the Fee Estimator on the UWindsor website. The typical cost of living in Windsor (other than fees) for a single person is approximately $1000.00 per month.
Available for students in thesis-based programs only, such as the Master's thesis option or the Doctoral Program. Research Assistantship Guidelines can be found on the Graduate Studies webpage.
Full-time doctoral and Master's students in eligible programs may be offered a Graduate Assistantship (GA) for up to 140 hours per term. Usually, a Master’s student who is offered a GA position will receive GA support for a total of three terms (two terms for course-based Master's), and a doctoral student - for seven terms. One additional GA term may be provided depending on availability. The value of a full 140-hour Master's GA is $5,356.40 per term and a doctoral GA - $5,969.60 per term (rates as of Sept. 2018). Typical Physics students work as GA's during the Fall and Winter term and pursue research during the Summer term. Only students who apply for a GA position in a term can be offered a position.
To be considered for an entrance scholarship, applicants must submit the full application package for admission into the academic program by the entrance scholarship deadline.
At the time of admission both Canadian and International full-time applicants with an admission average of at least 80% (or equivalent) will be considered for entrance scholarships upon the recommendation of their program:
Master's Students in a thesis or major paper stream: $7,500 for one year (non-renewable)
Master's Students in a course-work stream: $3,750 for one year (non-renewable)
Doctoral Students: $7,500 per year for up to 4 years

- Post-graduate awards from CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC (for domestic students only). Physics students apply most often to the CGS-M, PGS-M, and CGS-D scholarships.
- Ontario Graduate Scholarships: The OGS scholarships are available to both domestic and international students. The QEII SST is available only for domestic students.
- Other prestigious scholarships include the Vanier doctoral scholarship for domestic students, and the Ontario Trillium scholarship for new international doctoral students.
