A virtual private network (VPN) is an encrypted connection established between your device and a trusted server. Everything sent through this connection is secure and private.

The University offers the GlobalProtect VPN. Its use is recommended when UWindsor community members are accessing protected campus resources or accessing an unfamiliar WiFi network.

Watch Information Technology Services team member Kevin Macnaughton demonstrate how to install and use the GlobalProtect VPN in this 123-second Tech Talk video.

Icon indicating a starting point

Information Technology Services has launched a Getting Started section on its website featuring resources to help new students, faculty, and staff with their technology needs and to help answer questions as they settle into UWindsor.

“We know there are an abundance of things new members of our campus community need to know and do,” says Ryan Kenney, executive director, IT Services. “Getting Started is our attempt to pull together the IT road markers on that larger map.”

IT Services asks established faculty and staff to direct new employees and incoming students to www.uwindsor.ca/its/getting-started for their guide to IT at UWindsor.

Getting Started is an evolving resource from IT Services. If you have suggestions to enhance this service, please share them here.

email upgrade

During the summer, IT Services has been upgrading student email accounts from UWin Gmail to Outlook to bring them onto the same platform used by faculty and staff. Starting in October, alumni @uwindsor.ca email accounts will also begin transitioning to Outlook.

“Outlook offers enhanced email security, facilitates easier collaboration within the campus community and increases engagement opportunities,” says Marcin Pulcer, associate director, client services, IT Services.

In preparation for the transition, alumni are being asked to ensure their UWin Account password is in good standing by Oct. 5, 2020.

“We’re sharing information about this email upgrade with our alumni through our communication channels,” says Patti Lauzon, director, Alumni Affairs and Donor Communication. “Keeping our alumni engaged and connected to the university is our top priority.”

If you would like to learn more about the alumni email upgrade, or receive questions about the initiative, refer to www.uwindsor.ca/alumni/email-services for complete details.
