Student Opportunities at Legal Assistance of Windsor

Legal Assistance of Windsor offers an intensive clinical experience for upper year students. Law students work together with social work students under the supervision of lawyers and social workers to provide legal services in a poverty law clinic setting.

Operating in downtown Windsor, we provide legal services for those in our community unable to pay for a private lawyer and a learning opportunity for students.

Each year, Legal Assistance of Windsor hires approximately 10 Law students to work at the Clinic during the summer.

Academic Credit

Full-time Academic Program positions will be available with Legal Assistance of Windsor for the Fall and Winter academic terms. The application deadline for the academic terms are typically due in the Spring and will be posted in the future.

Registration Information

Students cannot register themselves in the Clinic Seminar Course. LAW will inform candidates of their selection and register them accordingly.

Under the supervision of staff lawyers and social workers, law students conduct file work from the initial intake to the resolution of the matter. This includes interviewing clients, drafting correspondence and negotiating with opposing parties, drafting applications to various administrative boards and tribunals, analyzing medical documentation, and preparing and submitting legal arguments to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, the Social Benefits Tribunal, and the Landlord and Tenant Board. Students also have the opportunity to be involved in community outreach and public legal education.
