Professor Richard Moon was interviewed in a documentary entitled “Harperman: A Dissident Serenade“ about the suspension of the federal civil servant who wrote and performed the Harperman song. Professor Moon appears at the 21 and 35 minute marks discussing the freedom of expression rights of civil servants:

The song, Harperman, was written and performed by Ottawa folk singer Tony Turner. Tony got his inspiration from an article in a social justice newsletter, and added to the list to create a toe-tapping participation song of protest. Millions of people across the country have viewed the video since it was posted on June 22.

A Hamilton-based film company created the documentary about Turner’s suspension and the issues it raises for freedom of expression in Canada to encourage people to reflect on these issues. The full length film will be released in December with the world premiere in Ottawa.
