Please join the University of Windsor Law Library's TR Reading Circle as we read Keetsahnak : our missing and murdered Indigenous sisters, in our next journey of learning. Violence against Indigenous women and girls is an unfair reality and cruel truth, but one that needs to be better understood in order to protect the health and safety of all Indigenous sisters. Dr. Beverly Jacobs, Senior Advisor to the President on Indigenous Relations and Outreach, and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law, is a contributing author of the chapter: "Honouring women".
"In Keetsahnak / Our Murdered and Missing Indigenous Sisters, the tension between personal, political, and public action is brought home starkly. This important collective volume both witnesses the significance of the travelling exhibition Walking With Our Sisters and creates a model for antiviolence work from an Indigenous perspective. The contributors look at the roots of violence and how it diminishes life for all. They acknowledge the destruction wrought by colonial violence, and also look at controversial topics such as lateral violence, challenges in working with "tradition," and problematic notions involved in "helping." Through stories of resilience, resistance, and activism, the editors give voice to powerful personal testimony and allow for the creation of knowledge."

In remembrance of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, we will also be participating in the project: Walking With Our Sisters – A Commemorative Art Installation for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women of Canada and the United States.
Walking With Our Sisters (WWOS) is by all accounts a massive community based commemorative project that is a memorial ceremony to honour murdered and missing Indigenous women and their families. [This] commemorative art installation... was created to remember and honor missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. Each pair of moccasin vamps, also known as tops, represents one missing or murdered Indigenous woman from North America.It includes 1810 pairs moccasin vamps (tops) plus 118 pairs of children’s vamps created and donated by hundreds of caring and concerned individuals to draw attention to this injustice.
