You may spot two new pickup trucks on campus, but you won’t catch them at the gas station.
That’s because they’re the first vehicles in UWindsor’s Facilities and Operations fleet to be fully electric.
Marking a key milestone in the University’s sustainability journey, the two 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EVs will replace aging vehicles that have reached the end of their life cycle.
The initiative supports the University’s Sustainability Framework, addressing its second priority area: reducing environmental impact through cutting greenhouse gas emissions and creating a low-carbon campus.
As additional vehicles require replacement, the University will continue to transition its fleet to zero-emission vehicles.
Sustainability officer Nadia Harduar says the switch to electric marks another step toward a more sustainable campus.
“This is an exciting milestone and an important step in the University's sustainability journey,” she says.
“This change reflects the hard work and commitment of our Facilities and Operations team, who have helped make the transition possible while ensuring we continue to meet the day-to-day needs of our campus community. It’s an important first step toward building a cleaner, low-carbon fleet.”
Harduar also encourages departments to think about sustainability in purchasing decisions of all sizes, citing recent progress made by the Green Labs initiative and Leddy Library’s sustainability efforts as examples.
