ESP

interactive videso still from ESP

ESP (2010)
Brent Lee, Nic de Cosson, Elke Utermöhlen

ESP is an improvisational structure developed around two Max MSP patches; the first patch records short vocal sounds into four buffers and allows for subsequent playback at different speeds, directions, volumes, and spatialized location; the second patch maps a Playstation 3 gamepad to these controls. Nic de Cosson also developed an interactive video patch that maps the amplitude of the singer’s voice to a graphics generator. The piece was composed by Brent Lee for singer Elke Utermöhlen (E is for Elke, S is for Spatialized, and P is for Playstation), but could equally be performed by a solo instrumentalist.
