Tuition and Fees

Tuition and Fees:

Financial Aid

Students in the Canadian & American Dual J.D. Program come from all over the world. While some students are U.S. or Canadian citizens, some are neither and others are both. In most cases, your financial aid options will depend on your citizenship.

Financial aid at both the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and the University of Windsor Faculty of Law is limited to tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation, parking and living expenses based on a cost of attendance budget (UDM J.D. tuition only). Expenses are determined based on whether the student lives in the U.S. or Canada.

It is important to note that as a dual degree student, you are required to pay tuition and fees to both the University of Detroit Mercy and the University of Windsor.

Each student must secure financial aid to cover the costs at both institutions. To avoid conflicts, the financial aid offices at both the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy must coordinate award activities. Canadian & American Dual J.D. applicants will be asked to sign a release allowing the two offices to work together to best advise the student.

How much is tuition?

Students enrolled in the Canadian & American Dual J.D. Program pay tuition to both the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and the University of Windsor Faculty of Law.

One of the unique features of the Program is locked-in tuition fees. In order to increase accessibility and stability at a time when tuition fees are rising yearly, both schools hold annual tuition constant for the duration of the three-year Program. Therefore, upon admission to the Canadian & American Dual J.D. Program, the amount of tuition in first year is the same amount charged in second and third years.

Tuition for the incoming class of 2016/2017 is $17,693 CDN for the University of Windsor Faculty of Law and $23,173 USD for the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.  Tuition for each academic year is usually set in the spring.

What is the tuition fee for international students?

When is tuition paid?

Fees are due and payable at each school prior to the commencement of regular term classes (Aug/Dec). The student's name, identification number, address, and telephone number should be recorded on the remittance form to ensure that the records are properly credited.

What other incidential fees can I expect?

In addition to its tuition, the University of Detroit Mercy charges Student Bar Association Fees, approximately $110.00 per year.

In addition to tuition, the University of Windsor charges for a number of incidential fees for services, e.g. medical, dental, etc. For an itemized list please check the University of Windsor's Cashier's Office website.
