The Vision Statement
To best serve the fast-changing world by educating the future leaders in mechanical engineering, the Mechanical Engineering Graduate Program is firmly committed to its efforts for advancing knowledge by conducting advanced research and by educating graduate students with practical training.
The Mission Statement
To become one of the favorable choices among the Mechanical Engineering Graduate Programs in Ontario by offering front-line knowledge and practical training in the fields related to fundamental and advanced mechanical engineering.
The Mechanical Engineering graduate program is fully accredited by the Council on Quality Assurance of Ontario Universities (previously, Ontario Council on Graduate Studies (OCGS)).
The Mechanical Engineering graduate program consists of a Thesis MASc. degree (12 credit hours of courses and 18 credit hours for Thesis), a Major Paper MASc. degree (24 credit hours of coursework and 6 credit hours for the Major Paper), and a Ph.D. degree (8 additional credit hours beyond the MASc. degree in addition to the dissertation). The program also includes a M.Eng. (24 credit hours of course work)
The objective of the graduate programs in Mechanical Engineering is to refine and extend the student’s capabilities for handling engineering research projects and to provide the industrial community with graduates who have technologically relevant knowledge. These objectives are achieved through course work, teaching and research seminars, major research papers and theses. Currently, students can specialize in one of three fields: Machine Dynamics and Design, Thermo-Fluids or Automotive.
In addition to the normal MASc.stream in Mechanical Engineering, students have the opportunity to be involved in the International Masters in Automotive Engineering. The first-of-its-kind dual degree agreement will see graduate students from the University of Windsor and Politecnico di Torino in Italy participate in a two-year Master’s program working on cutting-edge research and development projects with Chrysler and Fiat. The Windsor-Torino exchange program offers a complete, post-graduate level international Engineering education that addresses the challenges and new strategies in the auto industry and the requirements of the automotive engineering profession. Students will earn a Masters of Applied Science degree from the University of Windsor and a Laurea Magistrale degree from the Politecnico di Torino. Completing this program will give students unique skills and greatly enhance their employability in the global auto industry. It will help prepare them for a leadership role.
