Professor Danardo Jones comments on new bill calling for relaxed penalties for drug offences

Danardo Jones

In a CBC News: The National interview, Profesor Danardo Jones commented on a new bill that calls for relaxed penalties for non-violent drug offences. The legislation also includes measures to reduce incarceration of Indigenous and Black Canadians, as they are disproportionately impacted.

"It's a belated legislative intervention," says Professor Jones. "We are putting more discretion into the hands of folks who have traditionally exercised their discretion in a way that has led to the problem that we are now trying to solve."
