Students and faculty gathered for the annual Faculty of Human Kinetics Scholars’ Evening on Tuesday, Nov. 11 to celebrate students’ scholastic success.
A total of 138 students, from undergraduate to doctoral level, received scholarships and bursaries in addition to the 103 students recognized for making the Dean’s Honour Roll, which requires a minimum of an 80 per cent average across five courses.
Jack Wright, a Master of Science in Kinesiology and Health Studies student, was one of those recognized, receiving the Olafson Research Award, a Master’s Entrance Scholarship and a place on the Master’s Honour Roll.
“I am honoured to be recognized by the University of Windsor, as this institution has given me so much,” Wright said of receiving the honours.
“I have been very fortunate to work with some amazing people who inspire and motivate me every day.”
Also among those celebrated at the event were PhD students Samantha Monk, Sheldon Fetter and Danielle Salters, who received SSHRC doctoral fellowships, with Salters also receiving a SSHRC Sport Participation Research Canadian Graduate Scholarship and Monk taking home the 2024 GA/TA Award for Educational Leadership.
At the undergraduate level, Rahul Seehra, a BSc in Kinesiology and Health Studies student, received the $32,000 Ed Lumley Bursary, the Evelyn Manera Memorial Award and the Michael W. Ayris Millennium Scholarship as well as Dean’s Honour Roll status.
Dean of the Faculty of Human Kinetics, Linda Rohr, explained the critical role of donor partners in supporting student excellence.
“Scholars’ Evening is not only a celebration of academic excellence, but also an opportunity to recognize the many donors who support our students,” she said.
“As a faculty, we are grateful for the many contributions to ensure our outstanding students are recognized and celebrated. We are proud to support and shape the leaders of tomorrow.”
