Fall 2019 Student Series Workshop

OPUS hosted its annual Student Series Workshop on October 22nd, 2019 with an amazing turnout from part-time, full time & graduate students from across the university. Our keynote speakers included Dr. Cynthia Stirbys from the University of Windsor's School of Social work speaking on the importance of diversity, Kayla Weiler from the Canadian Federation of Students (Ontario) talking about challenges post-secondary education student’s face and programs and services geared towards them, Yahia Abdelbar from TD Canada Trust who presented on financial literacy and what that means for students, Hussein Zarif an Immigration Consultant from Canada By Choice Immigration who spoke in regards to immigration. OPUS discussed the mental health programs through Beacon and their insurance provider Green Shield. We are very grateful for our speakers in providing our students with valuable insight into their areas of expertise!
OPUS also gave away a $250 money prize to one lucky part-time undergraduate student and that student was, Yazan Kaloti! The event could not have been a success it was without our volunteers and staff who worked behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly.
One of the major reasons that OPUS hosts these gatherings is to bring students together on campus in order to discuss important issues that affect student life and show the value of their membership. These gatherings also introduce them to OPUS and the Board of Directors who advocate on their behalf. This opportunity is also used to inform our students about what other groups on and off campus have to offer, and what services and resources they provide to them.
