Logan Carmichael

Logan graduated from the University of Windsor Political Science department in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts [Honours] in Political Science, and a Law and Politics specialization.  She then completed a Masters of Conflict and Terrorism Studies at the University of Auckland in New Zealand.  From 2019 to 2021, she taught in the European Studies department at the University of Auckland.  Since 2021, she has worked in cybersecurity at ASB, one of New Zealand’s major banks.

During her time in Windsor, Logan ran for the Lancers varsity track and field and cross-country teams, and was a founding member of Project Syria, an on-campus organisation to support the resettlement of Syrian refugees.  She conducted research as part of the Outstanding Scholars program, attended the Political Science department’s ‘EU Study Abroad’ program in Brussels, Belgium, and represented the University of Windsor at the University Scholars Leadership Symposium in Hanoi, Vietnam.  Upon graduating, Logan received the Board of Governor’s Medal for Political Science and the President’s Medal.

After relocating to Auckland, Logan continued pursuing many interests that originated during her time in Windsor.  She worked for ReliefAid, a New Zealand NGO delivering humanitarian aid in Syria.  Her academic research focused on issues of national security, digital governance, and cybersecurity, particularly in Eastern Europe.  She lectured on these topics in various European Studies courses at the University of Auckland, as well as publishing articles in scholarly journals and mainstream media.  These experiences then led to a cybersecurity role at ASB.
Says Logan, “I 100% credit my time in Political Science at the University of Windsor with setting me on the path I’m on today.  Programs like Outstanding Scholars – getting to publish scholarly work as an undergraduate – and EU Study Abroad – going overseas for the first time and exploring the EU – really opened my eyes to a world of possibilities.  The faculty in the department are top-notch, and the exciting course offerings are still among the favourites I have taken in my studies.”

She encourages current and potential Political Science students to think big.  “There are so many incredible possibilities for what you can do with a Political Science degree, beyond what you could ever imagine.  When I started university, I never would have thought I would end up specialising in cybersecurity and digital politics.  Studying Political Science allows you to never stop learning, dig deeper into the world around you, and pursue some incredibly fulfilling job and life opportunities.”
