Tri-Agency Explore

The UWindsor-SSHRC Explore Grant program provides non-renewable seed funding opportunities for arts, social sciences and humanities researchers to conduct research and other scholarly and artistic activities that aid in strengthening their future external grant applications, particularly to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

Program Description

Seed funding to support small-scale research projects across disciplines that develop, pilot, and strengthen research initiatives leading to specific larger external funding applications.

What Projects are Eligible?

Small-scale, exploratory research projects aligned with social sciences and humanities disciplines. Projects must lead toward one or more specific external funding applications.

Who Can Apply?

Full-time faculty members and librarians with a research mandate. Must not hold other internal or external funding for the same project or have been awared a UWIndsor-SSHRC Explore Grant in the past 3 years.

Eligible Expenses

  • Research assistants (undergraduate/graduate),

  • Student research assistance

  • Sodest knowledge mobilization directly connected to research

  • Virtual collaboration meetings

  • Travel to meet collaborators (not conference travel)

  • Professional grant editing 

  • Statistical consulting

  • Office expenses (max 10%)

  • Use of specialized research equipment (not purchase). Must comply with agency guidelines.

$7,000 (maximum)

Applications accepted through the ERSO Research Portal

All grant holders must submit a final report, detailing the impact the award had on their work, within one month of the termination of the award.  Grant holders who fail to submit a report will be ineligible for future internal grants.  The information supplied in these reports will be used to report grants’ outcomes to SSHRC. Grant holders who fail to submit a report will be ineligible for future internal grants.
