Let’s Talk Work – Effective Communication in the Workplace – 5-Week Workshop Series

Abstract

Effective Workplace Communication is a 5-session interactive workshop series designed to equip participants with the essential skills to communicate clearly, confidently, and professionally in diverse workplace settings. Through a mix of theory and hands-on activities, the series explores foundational communication principles, team collaboration, professional writing, presentation skills, and navigating difficult conversations. Participants will leave with practical tools to enhance their daily interactions and foster stronger workplace relationships.

Workshop Outline:

This 5-session series covers key areas of professional communication:

  1. Foundations of Workplace Communication
    Understand the basics of verbal, non-verbal, and active listening techniques to build clear and respectful communication habits.
  2. Communicating with Colleagues & Teams
    Practice collaboration, giving and receiving feedback, and resolving conflicts respectfully through group activities and roleplay.
  3. Email & Written Communication
    Learn to craft clear, concise, and professional emails with the right tone and structure, avoiding common written communication pitfalls.
  4. Communication in Meetings & Presentations
    Build confidence in speaking during meetings and delivering short presentations using structured frameworks and non-verbal strategies.
  5. Navigating Difficult Conversations
    Develop strategies for handling high-stakes or uncomfortable conversations assertively using tactful strategies and building empathy.

Biography

Swagi Desai is a Master of Applied Computing student at the University of Windsor, with a strong foundation in computer science earned through a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland Global Campus. With hands-on experience as a Vue.js Developer Intern and a background in tutoring, Swagi brings a unique blend of technical expertise and communication insight. She has actively contributed to both development teams and educational environments, emphasizing collaboration, empathy, and clarity in every role. Her passion for reading and writing fuels her belief in the transformative power of stories—and how empathy grows with every new perspective we engage with. She believes that effective communication is not just a skill but a bridge to better understanding and shared success in any workplace.

Upon completing this workshop series, you will receive a completion certificate.
