Technical Workshop Series: “Mastering Figma: Bringing Your Sports Car Dashboard to Life” By Reem Al-Saidi

Monday, January 26, 2026 - 09:00

Presenter:  Reem Al-Saidi

Date: 26 Jan 2026

Time: 1st offering  9-10 AM,2nd offering 11 AM-12 PM

Location: 4th Floor (Workshop space) at 300 Ouellette Avenue (School of Computer Science Advanced Computing Hub)

Abstract:

This workshop bridges the gap between design concepts and practical execution. Students will learn to organize complex design files professionally, create reusable components with variants for different states (such as warning indicators and drive modes), and establish consistent color and typography systems. Special emphasis is placed on building interactive prototypes that demonstrate mode switching and state changes using Figma's Smart Animate feature.

Workshop Outline:

Figma interface overview — Toolbar, Layers Panel, Canvas, and Properties Panel
Setting up dashboard frames with automotive display dimensions (1920 × 720px)
Building dashboard elements using shapes, gradients, and effects
Creating and applying Color Styles and Text Styles for consistency

Exporting designs (PNG, SVG, PDF) for presentations and tool integration

Prerequisites:

Basic familiarity with design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, or similar — helpful but not required)
Interest in automotive UI/UX design and the C2 Sports Car Challenge
