Parvis (2012)
Brent Lee, Sigi Torinus

Parvis is an improvisational structure that uses Max MSP software to create accompaniments for live improvising performers. The pitches and rhythms of the lines played by the live musicians are translated into MIDI information this is used to trigger events in Ableton Live software, especially the sustained notes that create a layer of harmony as well as changes in sounds processing.  The same MIDI information is also used to control aspects of the video projection. Parvis is a Norwegian word meaning “in pairs”, reflecting both the pairing of live players with a virtual accompaniment and the pairing of sound and image. Video by Sigi Torinus and music by Brent Lee.
