Abstract: 

This presentation introduces the fundamental concepts of designing user interfaces and user experiences for vehicle systems. It covers how usability, safety, clarity, and consistency influence in-vehicle digital interactions. The session discusses core UI/UX principles, automotive-specific constraints, and how design choices impact driver and passenger experience. Attendees will gain a high level theoretical understanding of automotive UI/UX design.
 

Workshop Outline:

  • What UI and UX mean in the automotive context
  • Differences between automotive and non-automotive UI/UX
  • Safety, usability, and distraction considerations
  • Visual hierarchy and layout in vehicle interfaces
  • Consistency across screens and controls
  • Introduction to automotive UI/UX design patterns
  • Simple real-world vehicle UI examples

 

Prerequisites:

Basic understanding of user interfaces and software systems.

 

Biography: 

Younes is a Ph.D. student and research assistant who began his program at the School of Computer Science in Fall 2023. His primary research focuses on learning-based optimization, a type of self-optimizing system in cloud computing.
