Activity: Learn Engineering by Building your own Roller Coaster
In this activity, you will learn about basic mechanical and civil engineering principles by building a mini foam rollercoaster. You will have the opportunity to design and build your very own gravity driven rollercoaster using basic supplies such as foam tubing, cardboard, and tape. Your design must include hoops, loops, hills, and most importantly, the structural components to hold it all together! You will gain an understanding of the difference between kinetic and potential energy, as well as the effect of friction as your marble travels along your rollercoaster design. Your design will be tested on how far and fast your marble travels.
