How Collection Works

Within buildings

  • Custodial staff empty waste and recycling containers on the cleaning schedule
  • Report an overflowing or missed container to Custodial Services
  • Requests for additional containers should be directed to Custodial Services

Outdoors and campus-wide

  • Grounds supports the campus refuse collection program
  • Outdoor containers and collection points
  • Recycling collection and waste diversion
  • Bulk and construction waste removal

Special Items

Batteries and toner cartridges — used batteries and toner cartridges may be brought to the Chemical Control Centre for recycling, Room B-37C, Essex Hall.

Chemical and hazardous waste — handled through the Chemical Control Centre and must not be placed in general waste containers.

Electronics — review the Finance webpage for more information on the disposal process.

Sustainability

Grounds embraces environmental sustainability through our recycling efforts and our sustainable landscape and turf management practices. Correct sorting at the container is the most significant contribution the campus community can make to diversion rates, as a contaminated recycling container is frequently diverted to landfill.
