LAW’s WEFiGHT receives 2018 Victim Services Award from Attorney General

Legal Assistance of Windsor’s (LAW), WEFiGHT human trafficking Windsor initiative was one of four organizations recognized for their efforts at the official ceremony held in Queen’s Park Thursday, April 12th.

Shelley Gilbert, LAW coordinator of social work and Robyn Hodge human trafficking coordinator accepted the award on behalf of LAW.

Legal Assistance of Windsor has been the lead organization of WEFIGHT since 2008, providing direct service and legal support to domestic and international survivors of forced labour, marriage as trafficking and sex trafficking.

“We are immensely proud of this program,” said Marion Overholt, LAW executive director. “We applaud the initiative, innovation and courage that our team exhibits on a daily basis to provide this essential service to survivors of human trafficking.”    

WEFiGHT has been helping survivors of human trafficking since 2002 and was one of the first organizations in Canada to identify and develop a program for survivors of human trafficking.
