Honours Political Science with French Specialization

Canada is an officially bilingual country: provisions in the Canadian Constitution, the Official Languages Act and a number of other laws and policies mandate principal public institutions to provide services to citizens in both English and French.

It is widely recognized that bilingualism contributes to the rich, multicultural tapestry of Canadian society, and promoting proficiency in both official languages in support of bilingualism is an important objective for public institutions.

The Honours Political Science with French Specialization program is an advantageous option for students wanting a four-year Honours Political Science degree, and who aspire to a career requiring knowledge of French language and the culture of French Canada, such as public service, the law, and positions with non-governmental organizations and business.

It is offered in cooperation with Windsor's Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures (LLC).

The program differs from the existing Honours Political Science program in that students must complete fourteen courses taught in French, including nine at the University of Windsor, and five taken during a semester at the francophone university, normally in the third year of the program. In the past, students enrolled in the program conducted their semester abroad at the University of Ottawa, universities in Quebec or in France.
