Goals

2019 GATAcademyDr. Smith engaging with students at the GATAcademy at the University of Windsor

Some of my specific research-related goals for the near future include:

  • Conduct a virtual research symposium on the promising practices for creating learning-centred educational environments to enhance the teaching of culturally and linguistically diverse international students across the K-12 and post-secondary educational levels

  • Continue to explore ways to enhance student perspectives in my research on the international student experience, with a particular focus on micro-aggressions and cultural sensitivity

  • Develop a research plan for learning more about the connection between mentoring conducted in post-secondary concurrent education mentoring programs and early-career engagement with mentoring in Ontario schools

  • Co-develop with students and former students a monograph on strategic enrolment management in Canada

  • Conduct a comparative analysis of the student success factors affecting special-population (e.g., Indigenous, Black, First Generation, etc.) students in Canada to identify teaching strategies that promote student success
