Degree & Course Planning

Winter 2026

The 'validation' or 'shopping cart' period begins Wednesday, November 12. Student enrollment appointments vary by student, depending on credits complete. If you do not have an enrollment appointment, it is likely because you have a financial hold on your student account. Please contact the Student Accounts Office for assistance.

Many courses within CMF, and across campus, will hit capacity. If a course is full, it is recommended you join the waitlist. A guide on how to manage waitlists in UWinsite Student is available online

The last day to add a course for winter 2026 is Sunday, January 18.

CMF Degree Requirements

For current program requirements see Page 70 of the Academic Calendar.

CMF degree requirements:

Major Courses (CMAF- and FILM-)

Both CMAF and FILM courses count as major courses for CMF BA students, including specific requirements such as 3000 level and 4000 level.

For current course descriptions, including prerequisite information, see Page 73 of the Academic Calendar.

Elective Courses

A list of areas that satisfy various elective requirements (e.g., “Arts,” “Languages,” "Social Sciences," “Sciences,” etc.) see Page 44 of the Academic Calendar.

Note, for CMF BA students, FILM courses count as major courses and hence cannot be used for the "Arts" elective requirement.

Elective courses with Indigenous content are listed on the FAHSS Dean's site

Senior-Level Requirement

The "senior-level requirement" is a university-wide policy that stipulates at least 26 courses must be at the 2000 level or higher for all 4-year/Honours degrees, and that at least 16 courses must be at the 2000 level or higher for all 3-year/General degrees. This effectively limits students to taking a maximum of 14 1000-level courses.

Change of Program

If considering changing programs, it is recommended students connect with an Academic Advisor first.

Change of program (or major) requests are accepted for CMF Honours BA, Combined Honours BA, or General BA on an ongoing basis. For a guide on how to submit an application.

Change of program requests for the Film Production BFA open in January each year, with a June 1 deadline. To transfer into the BFA in Film Production, students must have a minimum 70% cumulative GPA. This is a limited-space program and a higher average may be necessary depending on the number of applications. These applications are assessed in June, effective for fall course registration for the following year.
