There are no prerequisites for our 3500 course Practical Strategies for Social Change. You can apply for the course if you are in semester 4 or higher.

Practical Strategies for Social Change: Intervening to Prevent Sexual Violence

Take this course and learn:

Sexual Violence: What it is, where and why it happens, and how to support victims/survivors.

Bystander Effect: Why good people don’t help in emergency situations and how this reluctance can be overcome.

Prevention: Why it’s important to speak out against sexually violent language and behaviour, and how to prevent a sexual assault before it happens.
Miranda's Experience
This course is restricted to semester 4+ students who have attained a cumulative GPA of 66% or higher at the time of application. Interested students may apply for Practicum in Social Change (4500) where you will deepen your knowledge of sexual violence prevention and learn to deliver Bringing in the Bystander® workshops for other undergraduate students.
Course applications go live October 1 for Winter term and April 1 for Fall term.

Leadership: How to be an effective workshop facilitator, how to respond to participants’ questions and concerns, how to offer and receive feedback, and how to motivate others.
Zach's Experience
This course is restricted to students who have achieved a final mark of 80% or higher in class participation/engagement and a final grade of 75% or higher in Practical Strategies for Social Change (SOSC-3500/PSYC-3500/SWRK-3500/SACR-3500/SJST-3500/WGST-3500/KINE-3501).
Completion of both 3500 and 4500 qualifies for Leadership credit, the FAHSS LEAD Medallion Scholars Program.
