The primary goal of this two-year mixed-methods comparative study is to create a new formal partnership to develop new knowledge about academic engagement among international students in higher education in Bangladesh, Canada, China, France, Germany, and Indonesia, and to make recommendations for higher-education instructors to strengthen international student engagement and success.
Secondary goals include investigating the complex interplay between university belonging, social interactions, teaching practices, and engagement in higher-education academic environments among international students at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels. We seek to improve understanding of the factors that influence international student engagement in higher-education academic environments, fill gaps in understanding, and develop a theory to guide educators in the development of improved educational practices.
