Wearing lab coats and curiosity on their sleeves, some of the region’s top high school science students gathered at the University of Windsor last week for the 12th annual Science Academy. 

Sixty students from across Windsor-Essex who recently completed Grade 11 took part in the five-day event, held July 7 to 11.

A UWindsor professor’s work on an insulated pavement design, aimed at reducing potholes and road deterioration generally by tackling the effects of freeze-thaw cycles, has earned national recognition.

Abimbola Grace Oyeyi, an assistant professor in the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, along with her research team, was recognized at the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering Conference (CSCE) with the Stephen G. Revay Award for their paper exploring the use of lightweight cellular concrete (LCC) in pavement design.

The University of Windsor will become the first university in Ontario to offer undergraduate nursing students education in medication prescribing — a move that aligns with the province’s expanded scope of practice for Registered Nurses (RNs) and aims to strengthen healthcare delivery across the province.

Three Odette School of Business faculty members took top honours at Canada's premier event for business academics.

Their research won best paper awards at the 2025 Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC) annual conference held in May. 

"These achievements showcase the incredible depth of research talent at the Odette School of Business,” notes associate dean Dr. Karen Robson.  

Master of Nursing student Kasia Zurawski’s work in psychiatric and mental health nursing has earned her the first Chapman Harm Reduction Scholarship from the Registered Nursing Foundation of Ontario. 

The scholarship, with a value of $1,000, is awarded to a practicing nurse or nursing student who has demonstrated commitment to a career focus on harm reduction in the field of addictions and mental health. 

Two courses brought together 13 adventurous students from the Faculty of Human Kinetics for a two-week global perspective learning experience in Costa Rica, April 22 to May 4.

This marked the third annual visit by students from the faculty, continuing a growing tradition of international engagement and experiential education.
